DOCTORS
Ann Stuart DVM
Dr. Stuart moved to the Asheville area soon after graduating with honors from the NCSU College of Veterinary Medicine and spending a year of internship at the University of Georgia. A horsewoman all of her life, Ann is involved with endurance racing from the local level to international championship competitions. She spends her spare time at home in the mountains of Barnardsville with her many horses, dogs and cats.
Ted Wright DVM
Dr. Wright graduated from the NCSU College of Veterinary Medicine in 2003 and enjoys taking care of animals in the field as well as in the hospital. When not fly fishing or playing tennis, he spends time with his family as well as his cats horses and dogs.
Erin Purvis DVM
Dr. Purvis is a 2010 graduate of the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Prior to joining Appalachian Equine, Erin worked at a private referral hospital in Washington state and completed an internship at Triangle Equine in Raleigh NC. Her professional interests include dentistry, soft tissue surgery, acupuncture and generally working to improve the relationship between humans and their animal companions. Along with her love of horses, cats and dogs, Erin is very excited to bring her experience with small ruminants and camelids to the Asheville area. Happy to be back in the mountains after a long absence, Erin spends her free time hiking and backpacking the local trails with her fiancé John and wonderful mutt Maggie! Also ruling their home are two cats, Jester and Triton.
STAFF
June Keifer
As our longest serving staff member, June handles all practice bookkeeping and business needs. You’ll also hear her filling in on phone duties when needed. She has a furry family of dogs and cats that she likes to spend time with at her beautiful home in the mountains of Weaverville where they all like to watch birds and bears out of the window together.
Sharyn Groh
Sharyn helped us out quite a few years ago by filling in when we were short on staff and she’s been with us ever since! She coordinates appointments in the field and in the office and is there to support both the doctors and our clients on the phone. Sharyn is a classical dressage rider and lives in the mountains of Barnardsville with her horses, dogs and cats.
Sara Boelt
Sara has been with us for many years helping us out on farm calls when the doctors need assistance, especially equine dentistries and surgery. In her full time job she manages the equestrian program at Camp Rockmont and teaches riding lessons and horsemanship in the off season. Her animal family includes horses, dogs and cats.
Susan Penland
Susan is a technician who helps us out with equine dentistries and surgeries. The boarding animals really appreciate her coming to take them for walks on weekends, and evenings, when they really need to go out! During the winter snowstorms of 2010/11, she went above and beyond the call of duty taking some little ones home with her to make sure they were in good hands. She lives in Weaverville with her husband and a herd of little boys, horses and goats.
Katy Rockett
Katy works in the hospital as our small animal technical assistant. She runs all of our lab and surgical equipment, assists with surgeries and provides nursing care for our smaller patients when they are in the hospital. She lives in Weaverville with her family of cats who are not too thrilled about the stray puppy she recently adopted.

Daphne Chinea
Daphne is our new receptionist so you will probably first meet her on the phone when you call the office. She keeps our small animal appointments scheduled efficiently and is doing a great job keeping our facebook page busy. She is also the keeper of the dog treats up front so when you stop by she is the one to see for goodies at the front desk. Daphne lives in Weaverville with her family and spends her creative time with photography.
